DOUG MAYS C.S.P.W.C.
Born in Hamilton in 1947 Doug has resided in Stoney Creek for more than 50 years and considers himself as a lifelong "Crikker".
Doug graduated in Architectural Technology from Mohawk College in 1971 and went on to a successful business career in Hamilton for the next 30 years, retiring in 2002.
A ‘multi-award-winning’ artist from age 10, Doug studied art through high school and following graduation from Mohawk he pursued further studies with several well-known, contemporary Canadian and American artists. Today Doug paints solely in watercolour and acrylic.
Spontaneity is the hallmark of Doug’s painting style. His unique, impressionistic approach has been strongly influenced and inspired by the works of John Singer Sargent and the teachings of Edgar Whitney. In 2004 he became an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), He is a member of the Ontario Plein Air Society and is a Past-President of the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA).
In addition to finding time for his ‘fine art’, Doug spends much of his year instructing in watercolour in Canada, Mexico and Europe.

"I’ve always considered myself a representational artist who attempts to find ‘expressive freedom’ in my paintings.
Moving between watercolour and acrylic allows me to explore new territory, new compositions, colours and techniques. After nearly 2 full decades of watercolour workshops I been given wonderful opportunities to travel, meet people with common interests and make new friends worldwide.
I cherish the ability to stand by my easel with brush & palette in hand to share my passion for the amazing medium of watercolours".
