SUSAN HOLLY
"A centuries old tradition passed down through the ages, first used for devotional purposes in religious settings, this art has now grown into an industry of professionals and artisans who make pieces for pleasure, business and architectural settings.
I am an artist from my childhood to Art College and beyond, centering on Advertising, Design and Retail merchandising. Retirement allowed me to focus on new horizons where I studied and participating in learning Stained Glass. I took my drawing and designs skills and applied them to my new found art. A piece of my work starts with a simple drawing which could be a subject or abstract shape. Once on paper, I move forward with the selection sheets of glass, combining the use of color, line and shape plus deciding on a size of the finished product. The glass comes from various parts of the world, some hand rolled, most machine made today. The design is drawn on the glass. Each part of the design is hand cut out. The finished artwork is thoroughly washed and polished, free of any dust, dirt or flux residue. At this point, the finished artwork can have various patinas or waxes applied to keep it's color appeal and luster, and can be framed in various ways - framed in wood, zinc or lead. I find stained glass very relaxing and satisfying to my artistic needs, and I try to pass this on to others to enjoy". Artist Email – ilex-tazenda@sympatico.ca |
