Audi Johnston is a local Niagara artist. She studied at the University of Saskatchewan before beginning a career in teaching.
Art became a major part of her life. Her abstracts are filled with colour and emotion. Getting up every day expecting something wonderful was going to happen has lead her to express that feeling in her paintings.
Audi has studied with many famous teachers. She was fortunate to study with Zoltan Zsabo, Marilyn Mercer, Jane E. Jones and Janet Walsh, and many talented local teachers.
Audi’s greatest joy is the painting on silk. Working with silk offers a very exciting, diverse, but temperamental medium. "French dyes have a mind of their own and controlling them on every painting is a challenge".
Audi is a breast cancer survivor, dragon boat racer, golfer, and welcomes your comments.
“I begin each painting by writing with a fine brush and water on a blank canvas or white piece of silk. I have in my mind what I want to create, so I write works of hope, inspiration, poetry and warm feelings on the blank surface. After the water has dried, I begin the painting. The words are invisible, but the thoughts and hopes are in the painting".
