CARMELA RINALDIS
"I realized how much I love art during my middle school years in Southern Italy. Although I don’t consider myself good in drawing, I always tried to draw anything I saw that was very colourful. Back then, I don’t remember ever having any paints, but I did own pencil crayons which I used mainly in school. But I did not continue any art courses in high school, in Canada. My desire to create a painting went dormant for a while.
In 1983, I moved back to Italy for three years with my family. Since I was not working, I wanted to have a regular hobby. Art was my obvious choice. Starting to work with oils, I was inspired by pictures found in books and magazines, but especially by the landscape of the olive groves and the vibrant colours of the poppy fields. Once completed, I gave most of my work away to relatives. When back in Canada, I was ready to explore different mediums to help my paintings evolve into more realistic pictures, more pleasing to the eye. Watercolours seemed to perk my interest. I had no idea how to use them and experimented plenty to get more desirable results. About three years ago, I attended an Art Show where an acquaintance of mine was exhibiting her work. Not only did she have watercolours, but also acrylics, another interesting medium. I began my first art class: watercolours and acrylics. This truly proved to be an eye opener, reinforcing my love for art and realizing I now saw things under a different light! I have also taken three workshops, and hope to continue in order to improve my technique and artistic vision". Artist Email – carmrinaldis@hotmail.com Instagram – @ziameme65 |
