Dave recognized early in his life that he enjoyed drawing and creating scenes and images that reflected a rural connection. Born and raised in the suburb of Toronto, his most enjoyable times as a young lad were spent roaming the fields and woodlands that were still plentiful then and reasonably close to home.
Dave, with an initial introduction to watercolours and to realize his passion for the medium, enrolled in a night school watercolour art class. He learned basic techniques and received constructive encouragement and then struck out on his own learning with each new painting. Sometimes the lessons learned can be painful and time consuming, but they are still the best lessons learned. Dave now works on his own full time at his home studio and displays his art at Festivals and Shows around the Province.
Dave offers two separate methods in his watercolours. His newest process is to create the painting and then when complete spray it with a fixative to lock in the colour and then paint on a watercolour specific UV varnish to protect the painting. This allows the watercolour to be displayed in a float frame without putting it behind glass. He also uses the traditional method of placing the painting behind glass.
Rural and nature scenes are still his calling. To capture the beauty of nature and the lakes and streams that surround us truly is represented in Dave's work. He also loves preserving farmhouses and barns in his watercolours, and the tractors that work the farms.
Dave also accepts commission work to capture your treasures in watercolour. Dave’s studio is located at his home in Acton, Ontario and is open by appointment.
