Following a 30 year career as a Horticulturalist and Arborist, Jim Pook took up wood turning as a hobby. Given his lifelong passion for native tree preservation, Jim utilizes locally sourced dead or fallen trees (typically from his Niagara property and wood lot) to create beautiful, timeless, one-of-a-kind wood turned items.
With some hard work, a keen eye, and imagination, Jim encourages each piece of wood to share its own life story. Defects and irregularities in the wood are enhanced to create stunning results. Jim’s goal is to preserve as much interest as nature once placed within the wood. Each wood turned item is hand sanded and sealed with a food-grade, highly durable gloss finish.
More recently, Jim’s passion for wood turning has led to the launch of The Woodturner’s Wares. The Woodturner’s Wares sells Jim’s one-of-a-kind items through local handmade markets, strategic business alliances, and social media channels. Jim’s work can also be viewed in person by appointment only.
