LORRAINE KELLY
"My journey to prepare for a show or any painting, begins with inspiration. I find when my creativity peaks on a subject, it is time to paint.
First I decide on how to put my subject onto my canvas, then choose my colour palette. I try to achieve most of my texturing effects and interest, on the canvas, as the work progresses by adding many layers of paint. Knowing how colours mix with each other on the canvas and how much water or extender to use, only comes from experience. The most asked question by other artists is “How long do you leave the paint before another colour is added to get the effect you want? The second is, how do you control it?” Most of my work is abstract or representable, done on medium to large canvasses. I try to put the paint on rather quickly, mixing and blending on the canvas. If I am open to what is happening on the canvas, I end up with a piece of work that I truly love and have not laboured over. Only in some cases do I use extra texturing effects. I use it to push myself further into my painting, exploring new ideas as the painting evolves. I lived in England for 13 years, in the USA for 2 years and Singapore for 8 years. All my travels and experiences, have had a positive affect on the way I paint today. I am primarily self taught, influenced by many artists and cultures. I often say, learn as much as you can from others but still have the courage to make it your own. If you go to my website you will see how my work has evolved over the years, from country to country". Artist Website – www.lorrainekellyart.com |
