Best of Craft & Design: The Pelham Art Festival Online Curated Collection Artist James Pook is the Award Winner

May 26, 2022

Following a 30-year career as a Horticulturalist and Arborist, James Pook took up woodturning as a way to continue his lifelong passion for native tree preservation.

"I use a wood lathe and turning tools to create each unique item. Locally sourced dead or fallen trees are brought back to life as one-of-a-kind items. Dead or fallen native trees are selected. Log characteristics of interest include burls, tree crotches, spalting and retained bark. My process allows each piece of wood to share its unique life story. Defects and irregularities in the wood are enhanced to create stunning results. My goal is to preserve as much interest as nature once placed within the wood".
