ROBIN NISBET
"As an artist, I am striving to capture and express how our modern views of landscape have been impacted by our current state of living. I want the viewer to reflect on, and question, his own impact on our environment. Why has today’s society become insatiable in the need for wanting more, newer, better... “it” never seems to be enough. I feel fortunate to live in Canada; however, as I explore my own Region of Niagara, I have come to realize how important it is to record how things are constantly changing and how we are living impacts that change. When you explore an abandoned property, you come across not just the property but the objects and random things that have been left. There could be an old toy, a broken chair or desk - be it inside or out these things have stories, they have a presence and a past that portray a tangible history. Through my artistic journey, family and maturity have paved the way for my true nature to express itself through my work. As a wife, mother and career woman, it would be middle age before I gave myself the permission and time required to obtain a B.A. in Studio Art, and paint full time. The layers of acrylic which bring life to my paintings mirror the layers of life experience which are reflected in my work. My graphic design work was nominated by the Canadian Home Builder’s Association and won the national Grand Sam Award for design and marketing excellence. I have exhibited in Trinidad and in South Western Ontario, and have paintings in private collections throughout southern Ontario. I live and work in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada".
