"I never know what will inspire me. I create a piece and it is my hope that someone will love it as much as I do".
Award winning Eco Artist Shelley Locke is a self-taught acrylic artist from St. Catharines, Ontario. Born with severe hearing loss Shelley’s motto ‘I may be deaf but I hear colour’ is apparent in her vibrant pieces, wide range in subject matter and style. Collectors of Shelley’s art range from Dufferin County to the Golden Horseshoe as well as the Niagara Region. ‘It makes me happy every time I walk by’, quote from one of Shelley’s collectors. Two years in a row The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce / NEXT Niagara chose Shelley’s work for their Priceless Fundraiser Auction, 2017 & 2018, as well Shelley was one of twenty-five invited for a personal critique by acclaimed artist Robert Bateman. Shelley’s ECO Art, ‘Only An Elephant Needs Ivory’ won first place in the Links For Greener Learning Inc.’s Eco Art Challenge and Fundraiser and was successfully auctioned.
An adventurous spirit and travel junkie Shelley has zip-lined in Costa Rica and slept at the base of a live volcano, travelled Bali by motorbike and tackled the rapids of the Ottawa River in a kayak. At a young age, Shelley tried her hand at writing then much later poetry; taking first place in two local writing and poetry contests and short-listed in The Writers’ Union of Canada Postcard Story Competition. With a background in Horticulture and Environmental Management Shelley’s creative journey now includes her visions in eco art. Acrylics, drywall compound and finger painting are all favourite creative methods.
Shelley currently resides in St. Catharines and works in Administration for a local company while continuing to hone her skills on canvas.
