SONIA WILKINSON
"The best reward for me is when I make a positive impact on the community. I play with colours, lines and textures, and the scale of them all. The images I create incite smiles, laughter or an emotional connection. I am inspired by bizarre facial expressions and by the influences we humans have on each other. I start with sketches, explore the size, angle and position of various elements, and when the image makes me laugh, is strange or speaks to me in some other way, I move on to canvas. When I add colour and texture, a unique personality or story emerges.
For quality and longevity, I choose to work with Golden Acrylics. I love that I can combine their wide variety of colours, mediums and sealants and come up with unique results that will last for centuries. I offer a variety of sizes to suite any budget or space available, between 5” x 5” up to 30” x 40”. Wilkinson lives with her family in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Throughout her childhood she dabbled in many different art mediums at home, at public school and at Dundas Valley School of Art. She later discovered graphic design and earned a diploma from Sheridan College in 1995. Wilkinson went on to have a 22-year career as a graphic designer. When she experienced painting again in 2015, her passion for art reawakened. She is now an artist and coach/teacher of creatives full-time. In 2019, Wilkinson was thrilled to have her art wrapped on 11 Utility Boxes along Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls. Her painting, “Road Ahead”, was awarded “Honourable Mention” in an online competition held in the United States, called “Light Space Time”. “Road Ahead” was top 15 out of 845 entries from 35 countries.
